QUESTION FROM AYESHA B. KHAN OF RELIGION NEWS SERVICE (RNS): Now that you are released from prison what direction will you take the community?
IMAM EARL ABDULMALIK MOHAMMED: That which satisfies the people of faith in a way higher than any other satisfaction is opportunity to share in the responsibility for their own community development under obedience to what they understand that G'd wants them to be in community or as a community, and to practice the best methods for encouraging others to accept a share in that responsibility. This is the demand that is most compelling.
It is my intention to make a contribution to satisfying that demand in our nature and in our identity as Muslims. We want to continue in our tradition of excellence in achieving that. Our tradition of good works, understanding and language. It is our school of thought, meaning the way in which we reason or think over and perceive this demand, and the methods we use to achieve it.
For us it is the Islamic tradition that wants to project always the correct image of Islam, not accepting the behaviors in achieving our objectives that might spoil or threaten to spoil what is required of Muslims for decent and good behavior. It is the Islamic tradition that serves the best aspirations for all humanity. It is the Islamic tradition that wants good relationships with all of the communities of faith and works for and cooperates for that, and promotes conditions to achieve that. It is the Islamic tradition that serves to strengthen the essential bonds of the American people. It is the Islamic tradition that also speaks to the unique or peculiar circumstances or needs of the African-American people.
It is the Islamic tradition that is the tradition of Muhammed the Prophet. It is the tradition of the leaders and teachers strictly following his moral and rational intent. It is the tradition of W. Deen Mohammed. I have no other objective.
