STATEMENT ON ATTACKS AGAINST WORSHIPPERS IN NEW ZEALAND
Our deepest felt condolences and concerns are extended to the families of those whose lives were lost, and who have been injured, at the hands of terrorists and their assaults on the worshippers at two Mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand during the Friday prayers. We intend this statement also to speak our sincerest sympathies to families affected by similar instances of terrorist assault on all peoples of faith in all nations perpetrated by extremism's corrupted hearts, ugly minds, and sinful hands.
An assault on innocence is not ever anticipated. Even in this present world of human communities having serious difficulties understanding each other, the human heart is not inclined and does not naturally prepare itself for an attack on worship. We seek the Help of Allah with this and all matters that confound us, that our human world struggles with and must define, defend against, and ultimately prevent.
As Muslims, we know that Islam is human community in peaceful worship of the Lord-Creator, and that this and all similar attacks against worshippers target human community innocence. In obeying our disciplines of faith we turn to Guidance and common sense to characterize what we see, experience, and endure in our world. We do not conclude any causes for such horror before we ask Allah for relief, and then we pursue the better judgments, lessons, and understanding with His Mercy.
Our thoughts are for all of the people of New Zealand, and prayers that they will show all of us the blessed human demonstration of love and care for neighbors and countrymen in need.
